To ensure good print quality and maximum print head life it is recommended to use only genuine Zebra or Toshiba ribbons for Zebra or Toshiba printers. Poor quality ribbons can reduce print quality, and damage the printhead.

Failure to use genuine approved consumables can result in invalidating the print head warranty.

Wax, Wax/Resin or Resin?

Wax ribbons are cheapest type of ribbon. They produce good quality print. Wax ribbons perform best on paper material.

Wax/Resin ribbons produce excellent quality print at all print resolutions. Wax/Resin ribbons work very well on most synthetic and paper materials

Resin ribbons are designed to be highly scratch resistant, chemical and moisture resistant. They produce excellent print quality and are designed for printing on synthetic materials. These are also recommended for high performance printers such as the Zebra Xi4 range.

Ribbon Size

The maximum ribbon size is dependent on the print width of your printer also ideally the ribbon should be just wider than the media (paper,label etc) that is being printed onto. For example if you are printing onto a 50mm wide label you should use a 64mm wide ribbon. This will reduce the chance of ribbon creasing.

Desktop ribbons should only be used in Desktop Printers as the ribbon space is usually to small to house larger industrial printer ribbons.
